What's an escape room?
Escape rooms are live-action adventure games where players are 'locked' in a themed room and given one hour to discover clues, solve challenges and find a master key needed to unlock the door and escape the room – before time runs out!
-
How do you play?
First, suspend a little disbelief – step into a fictional world and have some fun playing a game.
Forget everything you learned in science or history class. Our games rely on very little outside information beyond a fourth grade level. Everything you need to solve our rooms is in the provided back story, in the rooms themselves or given to you by our helpful game masters throughout the game. Our all-original games are never based on movies you never saw, books you never read or countries you never visited. It's a level playing field for everybody.
Keep moving – quickly! Escape games are designed to keep the pressure on until the very end! The most common reason escape room players run out of time is because they don't keep moving fast enough. It's not because the rooms are too hard.
Remember The Three C's of Escape Rooms! Communicate – Collaborate – Cooperate! Work together to share information and explore possibilities to reach your common goal.
Have fun! Laugh at yourself as you try to open a safe with a toilet plunger or tune a radio by moving a statue's arm. Escape room challenges are designed to be logical – but unusual.
Finally, celebrate! Winning is always great! Even players who run out of time still have so much fun they want to come back with friends, family and co-workers to play other rooms or finish an unsolved room.
-
Is the door really locked?
No – that would be creepy …
The door is closed and latched just like any other door in your home, workplace or any public retail business.
The door opens if:
- You hit a big, red panic button next to the door four feet above the floor – the same height as a light switch
- You verbally ask the game master to open the door – s/he is remotely watching, listening and playing along with you through an audio-video monitoring system
- There is a power failure in the building
- Any smoke alarm in the building goes off
- The game master deems it necessary to end the game and / or open the door for safety or policy reasons
- Time runs out
- You win the game!
You never need to give a reason or ask permission to leave our escape rooms.

Do we have to pay GRT if we we are a non-profit, 501(c)(3), branch of the military, have an NTTC or otherwise believe we need not pay GRT?
Yes.
And here is the reason why ...
Tax exemption applies to the purchase of Tangible Business Personal Property. It specifically excludes Services - which we offer in accordance with our NAICS code classification.
You will receive an itemized receipt after payment - indicating the tax amount paid, should you wish to manage this item when filing.
We are comitted to never putting you, us or our parent company in harm's way of the IRS.
Our escape rooms are fun!
Escaping the IRS is neither fun nor possible. Ever...
-
What if we get stuck and can't figure something out?
This almost never happens. Your Game Master remotely watches, listens and plays along with you through an audio-video monitoring system. S/he is there to clue you forward when you need help – which you can ask for at any time - and without any penalty.
-
What do we get if we win?
Fun, pride and the personal satisfaction of accomplishing a job well done!
Escape rooms aren't about prizes. Giving prizes defeats the purpose of what escape rooms are all about. Even people who don't crack a room in time still have fun and are happy and satisfied that they experienced something out of the ordinary, learned something new and made progress towards a fun goal – often while making new friends! Our Facebook reputation proves this out.

-
Will people other than my group also be in my game?
No. All games are private regardless of group size.
If you wish to add additional people to your group after you make a booking, you must phone us to do so at 575-323-2112.
Once you book a game, all other seats are closed out to the public, but we are of course happy to add people to your booking upon your direction. We can even do this at the time of your game by just appending your reservation at the start of your game.
Remember, we can always add people to an existing reservation, but we can't refund no-shows. It is always better to book the lower number of certain guests and then append the reservation upward upon arrival.

What is The First Rule of Lost Cruces?
The First Rule of Lost Cruces is:
You Do Not Talk About Lost Cruces
It's also the second rule …
What we mean is that Lost Cruces is a game that is best enjoyed when people discover surprises they didn't expect. To tell other people about the interior of ANY escape room game makes you the spoiler who ruins the experience for others. Uncool. Don't be that person.
But by all means, If we earn your praises, we sure do hope you'll tell the world how awesome Lost Cruces is and how much fun you had!

Can minors play?
Absolutely!
In fact, younger players often do very well in our games because they are usually more curious than adults and make good progress quickly by being eager to experiment. Unaccompanied minors may play without a parent or guardian prsent when they present Waiver M1 signed by a parent or guardian. Minors require either at least one ticketed and participating adult who assumes parental and / or guardianship responsibility for all participants or at least one non-ticketed supervising parent or guardian. Although Lost Cruces challenges are not designed for those under eight years of age, children younger than eight years of age are more than welcome to attend as complimentary guests of at least one of their supervising, participating, paying parents. Child care services and facilities are not available. Our single-station family restroom is suitable for changing needs.
-
Do you offer discounts?
The benefit of fair, consistent and unchanging pricing is that all customers receive the same quality of experience.
We are comitted to never using Groupon, BOGOs, flash sales or other deep discounts - so it benefits no one to wait for discounts such as these from us. These discounting practices have been shown to lower customer satisfaction, drive escape rooms out of business in a race-to-the-bottom and diminish the quality and value of the experiences we are comitted to fairly and consistently delivering to every guest upon every visit.
No one ever enjoys sitting on an airplane next to someone who brags about paying half as much for the same plane ride under the same conditions and level of service to fly to the same destination at the same time as someone who didn't play the right game the right way at the right time to pay less. We will never maniuplate our guests' time or money or give them cause to resent us in this fashion.
-
Are cell phones allowed?
Only in the lobby, please.
To preserve the integrity of our games, we only allow devices capable of processing sound and images (smart phones, cameras, etc.) to be in hand while only in the lobby.
While you may keep your devices with you during the game, please keep them stowed while in the room. This prevents people from accidentally ending the game early by subconsciously pulling out their phone to Google 'Louise Calhoun' or to 'use the flashlight'. That's why we give you a flashlight - and all the information you need to solve the room. Thank you for refraining from photographing or video recording any portion of our pre-game briefing or post-game disussions.
-
What if I'm late for my scheduled game?
The best way to answer this question is to take every measure to assure that you are never late.
Please arrive no less than 20 minutes prior to your scheduled start time to meet your fellow players and receive important briefings before the start of play. Lost Cruces operates on a Monochronic, Time-Certain Schedule that guarantees that games END at their scheduled time. This assures that rooms can be reset and ready for the following group's game to begin when expected.
We can't start public games late, admit latecomers to public games already in progress or refund fees for latecomers or no-shows. Private bookings have limited flexibility in this policy, but the governing factor is that games always end when scheduled to allow enough time for the following game to start when expected.
-
Do you take walk-ins or last-minute tag-alongs / additional players?
Yes - but ...
All games are pre-scheduled and prepaid on-line by credit or debit card through our secure server.
If you walk in and wish to play at the last minute, or if extra players arrive with you, and if there is availability in the game, then yes.
We only book games beyond their listed capacity when additional players are part of the same private group or essential to another's participation - such as a sign interpreter, translator or mobility aid.
Please call if you have questions about this - since we most commonly can accomodate you with a 'Yes'! 575-323-2112
-
Can I pay in cash?
Thank you for understanding and accepting that Lost Cruces Escape Room is not a cash business.
-
Do you give refunds?
Refunds or other considerations may be extended if Lost Cruces is responsible for delivering services other than as promised and outside of reasonable allowances. They are not offered in cases of:
- Government-mandated suspension of operations
- Late or no-show
- Solving early
- Expiration of time
- Grumpiness, frustration or not enjoying the experience
- Non-compliance
-
What about my claustrophobia, epilepsy, mobility, autism or other health condition?
All 31 claustrophobics who have played both of our rooms to date (5/3/20) have been perfectly comfortable. They consistently comment afterwards that they were so immersed and engaged in the game that they never felt distressed, hot or confined. They felt reassured knowing they could leave at any time just by pushing a button. None of them felt any sense of confinement or distress. If you don't feel comfortable in the space, let us know as soon as you don't feel right and we'll work together on a solution. Remember - you never need to discuss personal health details with us if you choose not to - you never need to declare a reason to leave the room - and you never need to ask for permission to leave the room.
Lost Cruces is designed and operated as an all-access facility. All persons are welcome and encouraged to play. Please contact us ahead of time so we can learn more about your requests and inform you of our environments and procedures to allow you to make an informed decision if Lost Cruces is right for you. No person is ever asked or obligated to disclose personal health details. Participation constitutes acceptance of Terms of Service and Assumption of Risk.

Do I need to bring anything or dress any special way?
Other than vision or hearing aids for those choosing to use them, there is no need to bring anything. We provide everything you need to have fun solving our rooms - including a flashlight and reading glasses. There is never a need to use any tools to disassemble anything or a smart device to Google anything.
We recommend dressing comfortably in clothing that allows for comfortable movement. Avoid clothing, hair or jewelry that could snag on anything.
There may be occasion to stretch, reach, crawl, kneel, bend, crouch, balance or lay down – but there will never be a need to climb, jump, run or apply excessive physical force.
-
Can we bring a bottle of wine? Brie? Grey Poupon?
Unfortunately not. Alcohol is not permitted within Lost Cruses and no food or beverage is permitted within any of the rooms.
More importantly, years of research has shown that players impaired by alcohol don't perform well and don't enjoy escape rooms. People play much better and enjoy their games much more when they have their wits about them. Afterward, there are plenty of food and beverage partners within walking distance or a short drive where guests are happy to celebrate their games - or commiserate their running out of time.
-
Are you a franchise?
We are a proud locally owned and operated business and member of the Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce.
Our all-original games are custom-designed to resonate locally with Southern New Mexico's history, culture and vision.
-
What if I have a complaint?
We are happy to take care of that – here's how ...
We are here to provide all guests with enjoyable experiences that inspire happy memories. If we have fallen short of that expectation, we are more than happy to respond to your bringing this to our attention.
The first thing to do is let us know at the time it happens. As much as we would like one, we don't have a time machine. We can't turn back time and fix something in the past. Please let us know as soon as you think something is other than what you expect so we can gladly address it immediately.
Second, realize that we very much want to give you excellent service – but we can only do that if you give us the opportunity to do so. If you grant us a reset, we bet we can restore things to your satisfaction. Thank you for giving us that opportunity.
Third, if you leave Lost Cruces and still feel like something wasn't right, just call us, walk in during open hours or email us directly. We are more than happy to work privately and individually with you to recover your guest experience.
Our staff is highly trained and our leadership is globally experienced in recreation and management. We take our work very seriously and pride ourselves on earning a strong and positive reputation. We appreciate your spending time with us and giving us the opportunity to bring you happiness.
